GearEpic Day 10Submitted by Crew on Thu, 08/14/2008 - 05:55Note- I accidently put Day 10 on the post from last night. Yesterday was Day 9, the easy day and today is Day 10 the Epic climb over Mt Washington. Sorry for the confusion. So it's 5:21am, and we dropped Karl off at 4:12am this morning. We're parked in front of the Bakery and Cafe in Jackson, NH, where they were nice enough to let us poach the interweb, plus we're waiting for them to open so we can get some good coffee. (Karl likes Folgers style can coffee in his french press, which is ok, but...) Nathan Pack Fusion 2.0 Hydration VestSubmitted by Karl on Mon, 08/11/2008 - 11:41The Proton 2.0 Hydration Pack made by Nathan Packs, is a smaller version of the Fusion 3.0. It has a few less pockets, and is designed for shorter ascents or races with more aid. Two convenient small pockets on the front make for easy access to energy gels and electrolytes. One strap across the chest with a convenient loop to strap on the water tube, and a no bounce feel for a comfortable ride. The pack loads from the inside in a convenient fashion, making it a fast, efficient way to reload drinks. The air flow created on the back with it’s webbing technology makes for a sweat free feel and a comfortable fit with no chaffing. This is what I have been using on the journey through the wood on the AT. - Karl First Endurance UltragenSubmitted by Karl on Mon, 08/11/2008 - 11:25
No other recovery product works as well as Ultragen from First Endurance. The combination of amino acids, protein, and the perfect amount of vitamins and minerals provides almost instant recovery. When taken at least 30 minutes post exercise, the time when the body’s cells are open for nourishment, Ultragen provides everything necessary to make the day’s run feel like it never happened. V.I.O. POVSubmitted by Crew on Thu, 07/17/2008 - 19:19From time to time while Karl's out on the AT, he'll be capturing vid footy with the V.I.O. POV.1. The POV.1 (Point-of-View Video System) is an easy-to-use video camera. With it, you can save video while recording in clip or loop modes with a max resolution at 720 X 480 megapixels. The wireless remote control let's you make video at the touch of a button while you're out on the trail. (Like, say, in a chance bear encounter.) You can download all the video and have it on You Tube in minutes. The SPOT Satellite MessengerSubmitted by Crew on Thu, 07/17/2008 - 19:08All the little markers you'll see on the interactive map at whereskarl.com are brought to you by SPOT. This is the way that we're tracking Karl out on the AT. It's a pretty cool deal. He'll tote the little orange Messenger on his Nathan Pack the whole time he's out there. The device will send a signal to the satellites every 10 minutes, and that information will be relayed in real-time and shown on our map. The system is automatic, so all Karl has to worry about is running. La Sportiva- Lynx shoeSubmitted by Crew on Thu, 07/17/2008 - 18:54The La Sportiva Lynx provides adequate support for rocky, technical trails. The aggressive tread, along with just enough of a stiff plate to ward off those sharp rocks, allows perfect traction in all conditions. Wet or dry traction is the key on the AT, and this shoe provided everything I need. Not only is the plate stiff, but the shoe turns into a slipper once it’s put on . |
